Every year, concerned youth turn the front lawn of the Raymus House into an adorable cardboard house village. Years ago, a young girl found out that children who are homeless, live in cardboard boxes sometimes. She felt this was awful and someone needed to let people know that this was not right and we have to bring it to an end! Out of her heartfelt concern, “Kids in a Box” homeless children's community awareness event was started. Kids bringing awareness and helping to offer a solution to a problem that is ever present in our community.
Families with young children are the fastest growing segment of the homeless population in America and Manteca Unified tells us that at any given time there are as many as 700 homeless kids in the school district. Hope Ministries serves approximately 70 homeless families per year and “Kids in a Box” is our way of letting our community share in bringing HOPE to those families trying to get a fresh start right here in our own town!
This year we have partnered with Calvary Community Church and we are bringing our cardboard village to their church lawn! Won’t you join us in this fun and inspirational event as we show our community that kids should play in boxes, not live in them!
